This Register refers to the Posse Comitatus which was a comprehensive military census compiled across Great Britain. It formed part of the preparations for defending Great Britain from Napoleon, and recorded all the able bodied men aged between 15 and 60 years of age who could be used to help defend the country should the French invade.
We are fortunate as the Buckinghamshire Posse Comitatus is the only county-wide register to survive in its entirety.
